Summary: EC-Council University announces the President’s Scholarship for aspiring women leaders in cybersecurity to encourage and promote their role in creating a safe cyberspace.
Albuquerque, NM – December 7th, 2017
EC-Council University (ECCU) announced the launch of the President’s Scholarship to encourage women to enter cybersecurity, following the success of the 2nd Edition Fintech Security Summit 2017 where approximately 70% of the participants in the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) class at the event were women.
“It is my desire to see that the cybersecurity industry encourages the participation of women, ensuring a steady rise in female cybersecurity experts. The underrepresentation of women is alarming as currently around 11% of the industry is women. The scholarship is being offered to all women globally who have the desire to succeed in a career that has about a million open job positions today,” said Lata Bavisi, President of ECCU.
The massive lack of cybersecurity experts poses a security risk to governmental institutions, organizations, and individuals. This has led to an increase in efforts to encourage more individuals to enter the expanding industry. Like all industries, cybersecurity would benefit from people with different outlooks and backgrounds adding their perspectives and expertise.
Making the profession more accessible to a more diverse group of people is an ongoing challenge but the benefits of solving this problem are potentially huge. According to the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies, “Diversity encourages a culture where divergent opinions can be brought together to develop innovative solutions to solve some of the toughest problems our nation faces today.”
EC-Council University is the educational arm of EC-Council, the world’s leading cybersecurity certification and training body. The university offers a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in cybersecurity as well as five graduate certification courses. ECCU is a U.S. based institution of higher education accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Apart from increasing the general workforce of the industry and bridging the skill gap, EC-Council University aims at improving the worldwide percentage of women who work at the C-Suite level, which is currently at a meager 1%, through higher education and training.
All women are encouraged to apply for this scholarship, valued at $2,000, that can be put toward tuition after a successful application for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity at EC-Council University.
Deserving candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:
- All admission requirements must be met
- An essay of 200 words on your perspective on women in cyber leadership
- Deadline is 8th March 2018
